Devlog 3

An Inconvenient Assault Devlog 3:

Level Design:

Since the map for our game uses tiles, it made the most sense to have a low resolution image represent the larger map in the game. This gave us an exact readout of which tiles will go where, and how the different tiles and map objects are grouped together. Each colored pixel on the 100x100 image, represents a different tile. Some tiles will be together in larger groups to represent a map object, such as a house or building. Example: The large light-blue squares represent office buildings which can be used for cover, and to give the suburban map some personality. Other aspects of the game mechanic play into this map design as well, such as the large black dots scattered about the map. These represent the pits that players and enemies can fall into, the trend being that the further you stray from the urban center, the more likely you are to encounter a pit, as there are no pits in the neighborhood area. While somewhat simple in design, this map allows for the perfect playground for slapping zombies around, which is always satisfying.
